The figure illustrates a typical flow path for a separate
cabin heating
loop. While it is possible to simply route engine coolant to space heater
registers located in the cabin, use of a separate exchanger as illustrated here
provides more flexibility in regulating hot water
flow to space heat registers, and avoids loss of engine coolant should leaks
develop in the space heating circulation loop. A cabin heater may also be
installed on a fresh water cooled engine.
Hot engine coolant in the
thermostat bypass circuit is routed through the space heating exchanger, then
returned to the engine circulation pump suction. Space heat circulating
fluid is pumped from a fill reservoir through the heat exchanger, and then
through the space heating register(s). |
