Orca Marine Cooling Systems is pleased to announce that as of today we have merged the manufacturing operations of San Juan Engineering and Manufacturing into those of Orca Marine Cooling Systems, both of Bellingham, WA. San Juan is the oldest marine heat exchanger manufacturer in our area, and together we have a substantial history of service in this industry.

ORCA Introduces Two New Equivalent Oil Cooling Arrangements for Perkins Engines

Orca Marine Cooling Systems announced today that it has introduced two new heat exchangers replacing current oil coolers used on Perkins engines. These Orca units are fabricated from long lasting copper shells and fittings, and employ Copper-Nickel tubes. Removable end caps permit easy cleaning and a fitted zinc anode insures long, corrosion free life for the unit.

These units replace the original parts consisting of cast aluminum shells and removable bundles. Inspired by the success of similar units (Range 4 three part tandem oil and charge air cooler and individual charge air coolers) these units are designed to replace the originals when the aluminum shell has been damaged due to corrosion as occurs when a salt water leak impinges on the aluminum casting Where the aluminum shells remain serviceable, Orca also manufactures the replacement removable elements.

ORCA Introduces an Updated Cooling System Kit for Mercruiser Engines

Orca Marine Cooling Systems announced today that it has introduced a new block only cooling system kit for the Mercruiser 4.3, 5.0 and 5.7 Liter engine series. This revised kit features improved ease of installation and additional cooling surface. It features a front mounted heat exchanger and covers model years 2002 through 2007. The system fits inside the engine envelope.

Two versions of this kit are offered: one which includes the necessary block-off gaskets and one which excludes these items which can be obtained directly from Mercruiser.

ORCA introduces Manifold Cooling System for Kubota D905, D1005 and D1105 Diesel Engines

Orca Marine Cooling Systems announced today that it has introduced a newly designed closed freshwater cooling system for the Kubota D905, D1005 and D1105 diesel engines.  An aluminum manifold is the heart of the system, with a removable “core” with copper shell and copper-nickel tubes.  Other parts include brass end caps and a new thermostat housing with an additional NPTF fitting for a temperature sensor.

The system is designed to accommodate propulsion, generator and auxiliary uses A 316 stainless steel exhaust elbow with integral injection quill is available for wet exhaust systems. A modified manifold without the engine cooling components is also available for keel cooled, dry exhaust systems to provide for exhaust manifold cooling.

ORCA introduces Cooling System for Indmar 351 engine for Mastercraft and other boats

Orca Marine Cooling Systems announced today that it has introduced a newly designed closed freshwater cooling system or the Indmar 351 engine fitted to a Mastercraft ski boat.

The system provides all of the advantages of a closed cooling system for this popular Ford based engine. The cooling system fits neatly inside the engine cover, is highly accessible and will add life and value to your boat.

ORCA introduces New Manifold Cooler for ISUZU 3CD1

Orca Marine Cooling Systems announced today that it has designed and produced a new manifold cooling system for the ISUZU 3CD1 engine This system provides cooling for the engine (including an oil cooler if desired) and the exhaust manifold.  Made from cast aluminum, brass and copper parts with copper-nickel tubes the package is light, compact and adaptable to propulsion, generator and auxiliary service.

Orca Introduces Perkins Range 4 Air / Oil Cooler

Orca Marine Cooling Systems announced today that it has designed a new tandem cooler for the
Perkins Range 4 series engine.  This unit, made exclusively by Orca Marine Cooling Systems, replaces the entire Range 4 assembly of Charge Air Cooler (Intercooler), Transmission Oil Cooler and Engine Oil Cooler with a single 3-part unit.  The shell is copper with copper-nickel tubes for long life in the marine environment.  Heat transfer surface is equivalent to that of the original part.

Using a newly designed laser cut custom bracket, the unit mounts neatly on the engine — matching all hose connections and extending 2 inches more than the original, still inside the engine envelope.

“It is increasingly difficult to find replacement parts for Perkins Range 4 cooling systems,” said Mike Dodds, production manager for Orca in Bellingham.  “This unit offers a boat owner a cost effective way to extend the useful life of the popular Perkins Range 4 engine if the cast aluminum parts of the original equipment become corroded or damaged.  Of course, we continue to manufacture replacement elements for the original tandem coolers and the engine cooler as well.”

ORCA Sponsors Business Conference

Orca Marine Cooling Systemsis pleased to announce that it is one of several sponsors for this year’s Whatcom Business Conference.  Hosted by the Small Business Development Center of Western Washington University’s College of Business and Economics and Whatcom Community College, the conference presents a series of seminars designed to improve local small business performance through education.

The conference is presented in Bellingham on October 21, 2004.

“We are a member of the Whatcom County business community, and proud of it,” said Bob Trunek, president of Orca Marine Cooling Systems.  “It is part of our responsibility to this community to  play at least a small role in enhancing local businesses, both in terms of the general business climate and in the capability of individual businesses.  This conference is an excellent vehicle to further that objective.”

ORCA introduces “Tune-Up” Kit

Orca Marine Cooling Systems today announced that it has introduced “Tune-Up” Kits for its removable end cap heat exchangers.  The kits consist of a set of gaskets, end caps, stainless end bolts and washers, a new zinc anode and a plastic clean-out rod.  This kit provides everything normally needed to clean and restore the heat exchanger to its original integrity.

Properly maintained, a quality heat exchanger will provide many years of trouble-free service.  Annual inspection of the exchanger and replacement of the rubber gaskets is part of that maintenance.  Additionally, zincs will generally require more frequent replacement so installing a fresh zinc while doing a thorough annual inspection is usually a good idea.  Over time, end caps will deform if over-tightened and could crack.  Replacing the end cap when you replace the gaskets insures that these components are in top condition.

“These Tune-Up kits” said Mike Dodds, Production Manager at Orca Marine Cooling Systems, ” make annual maintenance of a quality heat exchanger simple, save time in searching for all the correct parts, and are an effective tool to keep the exchanger functioning at maximum efficiency.”

We added a few new items to the TIPS section of this site, accessed via the ‘Tips’ button . These deal mainly with installation of a fresh water (closed) cooling system on an engine which has operated on raw water, and some of the related considerations.

Bellingham

ORCA Marine Cooling Systems announced today that their recently conducted Customer Survey has yielded helpful results.  Over 250 survey questionnaires were mailed to its customers on June 5, 2003.  The response rate was 20% on the mailing as of the last week of June.  Customers were able to mail, fax, e-mail or use the newly inaugurated web site to send their replies.  Many wrote notes with comments that ranged from flattering remarks about staff and assistance to useful ideas that will help improve customer service.

Bellingham – ORCA introduces cooling system kit for the MasterCraft X-30

ORCA Marine Cooling Systems announced today that the company has begun production of a new cooling system kit for the MasterCraft MCX HO 350 Indmar engine installed in the new X-30.  This half system kit includes all the parts and fittings necessary to convert a raw water cooled engine to long-lasting fresh water cooling.  The heat exchanger itself is front mounted and fits within the engine envelope.

This kit will give purchasers of this exciting new boat the opportunity to enhance and preserve its value by protecting the engine with fresh water cooling.  Installation of the heat exchanger also provides a source of hot water for cabin heating (additional parts required, not  produced by Orca).
